The 4 series is pretty in the flesh IMO. Saw one in that new BMW blue colour- a sort of darker shade of the old Estoril blue, another great colour from back in the day.

BMW do do good blue.

That last sentence sounds oddly compelling. It will be chanted by me for about half an hour on the way to work, in the style of an angry Congolese (interpretive- I have never heard an angry Congolese). Ah, the privacy of a car!

I have a Q3 and a Mini Cooper! I haven't spooged yet! I've decided that as I'll have an enormous tax bill in January to keep hold of the Mini (which is too small for family purposes) until after I've been thoroughly fleeced by hmrc.

The 435d M sport just looked utterly gorgeous. They seemed to have the muscular styling spot on.

I wanted the previous model so I went to a motor show and sat in one.
It was so big I looked like a 6 year old sat in his dad's car.

Here's what I think:

1. I like the front end but not the back;

2. I bet the boggo ones are surprisingly slow and yet still crazy thirsty;

3. I bet the interior is made from yoghurt-pots;

4. You will probably seem like a cnut driving one.

100% my thoughts too. Yet a lot of me still wants one.

They make a Shelby version as well, which is 5.8L V8 supercharged and manages 15-24mpg (US gallons).

I hired the previous one in California a couple of years back as we had lots of miles to do, and it was a good opportunity to try something different.
Ours was a V6 soft top, and perfect for the trip from Los Angeles to San Fransisco, Yosemite and back.
The interior was pretty basic, with hard plastics, and retro bling which was esentially coated plastics. You could change the colour of the dash and footwell lights to all colours of the rainbow, which the focus group must have liked, but we though naff. It was quite wallowy and the steering was quite highly geared meaning it seemed inaccurate to place and corner. You ended up with quite a few adjustments of the wheel. The chubby economy tires meant that the car undesteered too. We tried to recreate the end credits of The Dukes of Hazzard by donuting around some old trees in the dust on the hills above Los Angeles which was quite fun, but the interior got full of dust. The boot wasn't big enough for two cases, so we had to setabelt one into the back seat. For criusing up Route 1 and highway miles it was great. Wouldn't work as well over here though.
I imagine the performance versions would be a laugh, and they probably get a better grade of interior too.

I saw the new Mustang recently in their press pack thingy, and thought 'Oh.'

It looks unremarkable.

It will probably be slow.

I also hired one of the old ones, in San Fran a few yrs ago. Soft top, etc, trying to coinvince myself I was doing a Bullitt.
It was slow and extremely thristy, but I was pleasantly surprised at how cheap they were/are to buy.

I think the Tonka toy image is fair enough: it is affordable and sort of muscly, and that's about it.
But even in USA it is down in the pecking order. It makes a Corvette's cachet look enviable, which is rubbish TBH.

If you want a proper killer one you spend proper money getting it all spunked up with Shelby and Eleanor and hemi and bollocks.
And it is vast, regardless. Disappointing!

Remember this?
Damien Thorn wrote:Why has my car gone more economical all of a sudden?

Well, it's still happening. Yesterday morning my trip computer said I had 60 miles range left, then I drove 30 miles to work. As I left work I filled up and managed to fit in 58 litres. Usually when I fill up I get 62 litres in, so I had about 4 litres left in the tubes - which is almost a gallon. That makes me think the trip computer wasn't far off at all, and was underguessing if anything.

And when I filled up last night I had done 510 miles since the last fill up. So I was on course for ~540-550 if I'd gritted my teeth and kept going for a bit. This is definitely way more than I used to get (450 per tank, or so) and I haven't put air in the tyres since the last time I posted on this thread.

How?

Both those things might be true. But I leave for work at the same time every morning, and seem to arrive at the same time - within a few minutes depending on traffic - so I can't be that Alzomnia riddled.

you should get one.. my 335d is starting to loosen up now- and its fcuking quick- and amazingly economical

spent a couple of days driving like mum, and got 45mpg out of it- then spent a day driving like you (a cnut) and it still returned 35- incredible.. plus BMW drivers seems to cum in their pants when you are driving near them..

So the Cvntman is exacting its revenge for me planning to sell it in August.
It can't hurt me any more by breaking itself, as I have a Porsche Warranty, so it has decided to eat its tyres.

Normally I get 12-14k from the rears.
It just ate a set in 4700 miles. FFs!
MPG is the same, wear is even, driving is the same, so it must be possessed.

Oh and in case you think it isn't,it just broke it's own plastic radiator grill.
It only goes from locked garage to locked garage, is only driven by me and I didn't hit anything, but the grill is smashed.

Well fvck you Cvntman! Any more shit and I shall drive you to Italy and leave you in Naples and let you become a chicken shed.

No, it's wearing totally evenly across both tyres: Confirmed with a full geo check at the dealers.

It started eating them after they fitted the new engine, which def feels more powerful: Confirmed by drag test between two known points- roundabout and a bridge.

It couldn't just be that could it? My MPG is the same. Any ideas?

Unlikely it is the engine if your MPG is the same
Could still be wheel geometry even if wear is even
Or you driving like a cnut

Driving like a cnut Just normal commuting.

If all the cambers and castors and toes ins and outs are as per Porsche requirements, how can it make it wear more? Genuine question.

I think if they've tinkered with the engine then you could be getting more power for the same MPG.
My Carrera went through rears in about 4k miles.

I think you could have a better engine with more power but the same MPG too. AS has been proven wrong on MPG matters numerous times on the forum so ignore him.
