Electric Cars Spotted

General car gossip.

What's strange is that this was totally unnecessary, his legal team had agreed a solution with the SEC and everyone was moving to him paying a penalty with no other sanction when he apparently blew up and cancelled the whole thing.

More evidence of petulant, erratic behaviour.

Elon Musk has been fined $20million and will be forced to resign as chairman of Tesla after reaching a settlement on fraud charges.

He stays as CEO though, so what will actually change? He can be chairman again in 3 years if he wants.

Are you wilfully misrepresenting facts or do you genuinely not understand?

And he stays on as CEO, which apparently the market reacted favourably to, shares jumping 17%.

Investors cheered Tesla's deal with the SEC that keeps Elon Musk as CEO.

Tesla third quarter production numbers

Tesla's shares jumped by about 2 percent in premarket trading immediately after the news was announced, but were about flat by 8:48 a.m. The company beat Wall Street estimates of 80,500 deliveries during the quarter, according to FactSet.

...

Q3 deliveries totaled 83,500 vehicles: 55,840 Model 3, 14,470 Model S, and 13,190 Model X. To put this in perspective, in just Q3, we delivered more than 80% of the vehicles that we delivered in all of 2017, and we delivered about twice as many Model 3s as we did in all previous quarters combined.

...

Demand for Model S and X remains high. In Q3, we were able to significantly increase Model S and X deliveries notwithstanding the headwinds we have been facing from the ongoing trade tensions between the US and China. Those trade tensions have resulted in an import tariff rate of 40% on Tesla vehicles versus 15% for other imported cars in China.

...

CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly said he expects the company to be profitable in the third quarter. Tesla has had only two profitable quarters since it went public in 2010.

New car sales in Norway for September 2018 were 47.7% EV

The best selling manufacturer being Tesla.

In September 10,620 new passenger cars were registered, 2864 fewer (-21.2%) than in September 2017. Average CO2 emissions for all new passenger cars registered in September were 55 g / km.

...

"Such a large electric car caused a record low CO2 emissions of 55 g / km. Although we in Norway are accustomed to average CO2 emissions falling from month to month, this is the lowest level we have ever measured.

But no one is buying EVs, obviously.

Wow that’s amazing. There surely must be more to it though? Big incentives (gov?) that have resulted in half of all cars being electric?

Yes

https://www.theguardian.com/money/2018/ ... ossil-fuel

Over there an e-Golf costs £2.5k less than a 1.2 petrol version. Over here it’s £12k more. Plus they save around £3k/yr in other costs.

“Buyers escape heavy import or purchase taxes and are also exempt from 25% VAT. They also avoid road tax, road tolls, pay half price on ferries, get free municipal parking in cities and can usually use bus lanes.”

No one is buying them in the UK. What is your point? It really doesn’t take take long to find out that EV buyers in Norway have been incentivised by loads of free money from the Government to buy an EV.

So there are already more purely electric vehicles on the roads than there are Porsche 911s registered in the UK

And if you consider plug in hybrids as well, then the electric market is selling more year than their are 911s in total.

But of course its irrelevant because no-one buys 911s. Never have

fwiw last night I watched a Tesla use its excellent acceleration to pull off an overtake at some lights last night by going into the wrong lane and then burning every one else off when it went green. Easy with such performance. So the comparison with 911s is chosen with care

Tesla had a good Q3

Q3 2018 was a truly historic quarter for Tesla. Model 3 was the best-selling car in the US in terms of revenue and the 5 the best-selling
car in terms of volume. With average weekly Model 3 production through the quarter (excluding planned shutdowns) of roughly 4,3
00 units per week, we achieved GAAP net income of $312 million. We also delivered on our internal cost efficiency targets, leading
to GAAP Model 3 gross margin of more than 20%, which exceeded our guidance. Finally, our total cash increased by $731 million and
we had free cash flow (operating cash flow less capex) of $881 million despite less than 10% of that amount coming from key workin
g capital items (payables, receivables, and inventory).

Tesla shares soar on surprise third-quarter profit that beats Wall Street expectations

Here's how the company did compared with what Wall Street expected, based on average estimates of analysts polled by Refinitiv:

Adjusted earnings: $2.90 a share vs. an expected loss of 19 cents per share
Revenue: $6.82 billion vs. an expected $6.33 billion

Good for them!

I used to think quite highly of James Dyson until he became a very vocal Brexiteer and then moving even more of his production from Wiltshire to Singapore.

Now I just think he's a self-serving cnut.

He still holds me in high regard however.

Dyson might just find himself being bitten on the arse by a slow-down in the rate of increase of Chinese consumption and a more savvy customer base choosing less premium brands, the same as Apple have.

I’ve never been that much of a (bladeless) fan of his.

He essentially just created a see though hoover, isn’t it? I mean, yeah bagless and all that shit, but what’s the big Perspex bit that all your dust goes in, if not essentially a hard bag?

And then based on that one tiny innovation, he’s seemingly out to flog the same shit in a different suit every single year.

“Oh, this one has a ball. Oh, this one clips to your wall. Oh, this one clips to the wall and has a ball and extends.”

Whatever mate. Get fcuked.

You can't deny that not having to buy hoover bags has been a change on a par with the discovery of the internal combustion engine or the invention of penicillin though Dis. Don't you even remember the nightmarish world of hoover bags?
