Electric Cars Spotted

General car gossip.

Tesla Model 3 update

Buy a Tesla on line with your phone.

But this is astonishing:

We are also making it much easier to try out and return a Tesla, so that a test drive prior to purchase isn’t needed. You can now return a car within 7 days or 1,000 miles for a full refund. Quite literally, you could buy a Tesla, drive several hundred miles for a weekend road trip with friends and then return it for free. With the highest consumer satisfaction score of any car on the road, we are confident you will want to keep your Tesla.

I'm sure there must be some legal stuff that makes it an actual pain to return it...

I would guess that you have to buy the car outright?

I would also guess that the type of person who would spend $35k on a car isn't the type of person that would milk it. You'd also have to get insurance.

Plug in hybrid. I do too many miles for a pure electric car with the current infrastructure.

It’ll be here in a couple of weeks so I’ll do a post then. It’s nothing exciting I’m afraid.

Same, I was running around in one for a bit a few weeks back and thought it was excellent. That said, I had a loan of a new M5 the week after and stopped caring about the earth entirely.

PHEV or normal?

I’m looking forward to the PHEV part of it and will be boring anyone who will listen about how many miles I’m getting out of the battery.

PHEV.

from my experience you’ll get very few miles out of the battery...maybe 20 or something.

Note sure which version you’ve been but the 2019 model has a bigger battery and bigger engine (2.4). Apparently it will go a bit further on electric.

It’s less about the battery tbh it’s the tax benefits.

Interested to hear how it is. It’s on my long list as a potential replacement for the 5 series at some point.

It depends on the journey. A mate who commutes 25 miles to work get an effective 100mpg. When he’s on a longer run it works out in the 40’s which isn’t terrible for a 2 tonne lump.

Would one of the questions be ‘why would a car manufacturer set light to a service centre where the cars are not owned by them and there is therefore no likely gain?’?

No reason at all, I didn't suggest it would be the manufacturer. More likely the dealer. As it happens I am sure it is an accident, just unfortunate timing.

Big step for Musk elsewhere with the capsule in which astronauts would sit being launched.

Next step the resumation of US manned space flights

It's not a dealership.

Electric Cars Spotted

Post by thekungfury @ Sun Mar 17, 2019 7:11 pm

I saw a Tesla Model 3 yesterday. Looks good.

It was waiting to enter the roundabout I was on so I didn’t get much of a look at it. At first I thought it was a Focus with a bodykit and it wasn’t until I saw it in the mirror that I realised it had the Tesla grille.

Don’t think they’re officially out here yet so I guess it’s an import.

I’ve done a few hundred miles now and initial impressions are good. It’s a big comfy car with nice tech.

Image

Silently swooshing around is well nice. Three people have walked in front of me in car parks though.

Overal refinement is distinctly Japanese which is a bit of a culture shock coming from Germans.

Comparing electric + petrol costs over a 40m commute it’s about the same as my old 60mpg diesel. Tokes was bang on with effective 20m electric range.

Total range is annoyingly small at something like 350m when battery and tank are full. I used to get 650-700 from the Audi. That only matters on long journeys though as 10x30m trips will only use 100m of fuel, yagetme?

Good car.
