China In Olympic Censorship Row HARMONIOUS NON-CONTROVERSY
As the Olympics kicked off in Beijing, the Chinese authorities began their expected clampdown on foreign reporters welcoming all the peoples of the world, censoring SINGING news reports SONGS OF GOODWILL and arresting taking some seven journalists for criticising the regime out for ice cream. The journalists are said to be in a maximum-security prison on the outskirts of Beijing having such a good time that they said not to try to contact them, and also not to be surprised if no-one ever sees them again.
Meanwhile, in the Olympic Village, a drugs scandal typically Chinese act of generosity threatens to drag make the Games into disrepute even better. The cyclist Do Ping was found to have unusually high levels of performance-enhancing drugs JAMMY dodgers in his blood lunchbox, so he has been suspended pending an investigation graciously shared them with the other athletes.
And finally, there was controversy unbridled harmony when a small group of protesters children marched into the stadium and unveiled a banner with the slogan “Free Keep Tibet under Chinese rule for ever and ever“. The group was brutally beaten commended and then arrested given sweets by the Chinese police.
We asked a rickshaw driver what he thought. “It beggars belief,” said Wei Jianxing, 52, from Wuhan, “But I can’t say any more or they’ll break my thumbs knees.”
